The ascription of intrinsic value may either be a claim that positions the speaker as a moral realist as opposed to anti-realist, or it may be a statement about, in what ways it will be meaningful to utilize or to care for the things to which one is ascribing intrinsic value. His current research takes up the meta-ethical question of what ascriptions of intrinsic value mean. His work attempts to provide a framework to discuss the approaches in the field of environmental philosophy with the question of what kind of ethical/moral obligation we have towards the natural environment and whether the natural environment has its own right independent of human interest. The principal questions that lie in his research are how the ascription of value in nature is to be described and in what sense nature could have value of its own right. Khangembam Romesh is particularly interested in environmental ethics which has been developed since its inception as a branch of applied philosophy.
